Introducing Graph Mode: Unlock Powerful Project Visualisations in Visual Backlog
One of Visual Backlog’s core strengths is its ability to build a comprehensive project graph that includes both parent/child relationships and dependencies (issue links). However, until now, there wasn’t an option to focus on just one of these relationship types.
That changes today. Introducing Graph Mode!
What is Graph Mode?
Graph Mode is a new top-level filter (alongside the Data Source filter), located in the top-left corner of the data filters. It gives you precise control over the types of relationships Visual Backlog maps. With Graph Mode, you can choose from three options:
Full Mode
This is the default setting, mapping both parent/child relationships and dependencies (issue links).
In this mode, parent/child relationships form the backbone of the graph, with dependencies layered on top.
Issues are only visible if their parent is also visible. For example, Story-level issues will appear on the graph only when their corresponding Epic-level or Project nodes are visible.
Dependencies Mode
In this mode, Visual Backlog maps only the dependencies (issue links), excluding parent/child relationships.
Instead of a single, continuous graph, Visual Backlog renders a set of smaller, dependency-focused graphs.
An issue is visible only if it is a dependency or has a dependency on another visible issue.
Parent Mode
This mode is similar to Full Mode but excludes dependency relationships.
Why Graph Mode matters?
Graph Mode unlocks new use cases for Visual Backlog by offering more flexibility in how relationships are visualised. It also lays the groundwork for future features, such as issue grouping.
Whether you’re analysing dependencies in isolation or focusing on hierarchical structures, Graph Mode gives you the tools to visualise your project exactly the way you need.
